Thom James Carter is a freelance copywriter and editor based in London, United Kingdom.
...but you knew that already. Here’s what you didn’t know.
After earning a degree in English, I was mentored by some of the best writers in the United Kingdom - namely Erica Wagner and Blake Morrison - while on the MA Creative Writing course at Goldsmiths, University of London. I’ve contributed work to The Huffington Post, The London Economic, The Leopard, and other publications released digitally and in print. I’m not a sly marketer pretending to be a copywriter. I’m a writer through and through.
Post-graduation, I worked for a bunch of successful start-ups (TheIdleMan, Adverdose) on London’s silicon roundabout, Old Street. Eventually I swapped full-time for freelance, so I could take on innovative projects whenever I wanted. In the last three years, I’ve accepted work from clients such as Google, Nightwatch, Battlecat! Studios, QliQ, and Logical Localization and Translation. I feel privileged to have written copy, rewritten words, proofread material, and edited work for some really special companies.
In terms of craft, I create punchy, pithy copy. A strong one-liner is far superior to paragraphs and paragraphs of gobbledygook. I also play with whimsy and wit, all while not being too distant from the reader. If copy can be a joy to read, why not make it joyful?
